Effective Defense Through Cost Effective Research

Why is historical research such a powerful tool?  Very simply, an experienced and well trained researcher can find out almost anything about a ship, aircraft or vehicle built or used by the Federal Government because there is so much public information available in Government and commercial archives.

Federal Government archives hold tens of millions of pages of public documents (including plans and photographs) relating to the design, construction, maintenance and repair of thousands of aircraft, ships and vehicles.  These documents cover every product used aboard these ships, aircraft and vehicles.   The documents can identify product manufacturers, where and how the products were used and the contents of the products.

In addition, the daily personnel records for every U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps ship, station, squadron and unit are available for research from 1940 through 1970.  This information can confirm or refute a claimant's assertions about their naval service and provide lists of their co‑workers throughout their Navy/Marine Corps career.  We frequently find factual items about the plaintiff not included in responses to interrogatories.  For example, in a previous case we discovered a plaintiff who forgot that he spent six months at hard labor in a military prison for desertion.  In other cases we found plaintiffs that forgot about Court Martial convictions for assaulting superior officers.  One plaintiff even "forgot" being present at an open air atomic bomb test.
