Using the Historical Research

Finding all of the documents that are relevant to a specific case is neither intuitive nor straightforward even for an experienced researcher.  The indices of these archives are based on filing systems that have not been used for decades.  Learning how to locate files containing the most important relevant documents for a case takes training and experience.

Locating and retrieving relevant documents is less than half what it takes to harness the power of historical research.  Many of the most important documents to the Defense are highly technical documents.  Each package of documents that we normally deliver to our clients contains only relevant documents, organized chronologically, by subject area.  We highlight essential elements of each document for easy reference.

Accompanying these documents are copies of plans (both from microfilm and full-size originals), photographs and service record information on the plaintiff from public sources.  A detailed report for each ship or type of aircraft from which the plaintiff alleges an exposure will contain most of the textual documents.  We also include self-authenticating copies of these documents.  Finally, we summarize the contents of the package, and the results of our research, in a memorandum to our client.  This requires researchers who understand ships and aircraft and their systems, through education, training and operational experience.
